Melkor, early concept by FoxInShadow Melkor, early concept by FoxInShadow
You know it had to happen one day, I just had to start working on my own interpretation of The Prime Dark Lord!

I decided this is not the final version what so ever, because I've always had many visions of Melkor, and I'm not gonna lie it is troublesome to me to imagine him properly

First of all, I'm striving to avoid the similarities with Sauron. I want Melkor to stand out. Let's not forget he was made in the beginning, before the world was made solvent, as the first Ainu created by Eru Iluvatar in the Timeless Halls, at the beginning of creation. So he must have been majestic and powerful at the beginning, before the Corruption and Void filled his thoughts.

This is of course the Angband period of his hegemony, with him carrying the three Silmarils in his crown.

I am a huge Tolkienfag, as always

Very well done, Melkor looks great. As I recall, wasn't he actually described by Tolkien at one point as being so big he looked like 'a mountain crowned in fire and darkness'?

Important part of being an Ainur, is that you can shapeshift. I know that description, but Melkor was also known for appearing as a "Dark Lord" and also several times as a cloud of black smoke.

Sauron was also capable of shapeshifting, and before he lost his ability to do so he could even appear as a man of great posture, serpent, a vampire, and a great wolf.

Thanks for the explanation; it's been years since I read the Silmarillion and I'd forgotten about the cloud of black smoke. I did remember Sauron turning into vampires and werewolves*, though, being the old school monster fan that I am.

* -- If I remember right he held a fortress on an island called 'Home of Werewolves' for a time until he met Beren and Luthien.
